Lineable’s technology provides cost-efficient child safety tracking

Every day, approximately 2,000 children go missing in the United States. Lost or injured children are vulnerable to separation from their supervisor or parent, resulting in panic for individuals and communities as they work to reunite a child with his or her guardian.

Thanks to emerging beacon technology, eliminating the occurrence of this terrorizing situation may not be far in the future. Take a look at Lineable, a iOS-compatible tracking bracelet that allows parents to keep track of children for only $5.

Lineable’s design and production is led by Tyler Moon, a former Samsung developer. He has designed the Lineable bracelet to sync with users’ smartphones through Beacon and Bluetooth 4.0 technology. On their mobile devices, users set parameters for their childrens’ tracking areas. Parents or guardians can monitor children within that area; if children leave the area, users are immediately notified.

Lineable’s value also increases with network effect. Once a child has left his or her designated area, other Lineable users around the child receive a notification; the hope is that a responsive network of Lineable users can return a missing child to safety.

The idea is especially handy for bigger schools and playgrounds, where Lineable’s “multiple children” mode could help adults monitor large groups of students at once. At $5 a bracelet, Lineable may be a valuable asset for district-wide safety in schools with younger students.

The Lineale bracelet is waterproof, sandproof and its battery lasts one year. Thanks to Bluetooth 4.0 technology improvements, the Lineable bracelet can track children far beyond the 100-feet range limit of most Bluetooth devices.

To date, Lineable has raised $23,000 of its $30,000 funding goal on IndieGoGo. Bracelets will be available for shipment in February 2015.
